On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, Bayside Seafood Grill & Bar will close for the first time in its history to undergo a top-to-bottom renovation of its 6,500 square feet of interior space. The restaurant opened in 1990 as the first business on Venetian Village’s south side. While Bayside has refurbished its interiors in the past, this is a significant renovation that will reconfigure its interiors and give the restaurant a clean, fresh design that is more contemporary.
Bayside will be closed as of Sunday, June 13th for the estimated nine-week renovation. According to Co-Owner Sukie Honeycutt, “Our goal is to update the restaurant’s interior to give it a clean, current look and to take maximum advantage of the panoramic views of Venetian Bay.”
The restaurant’s entry will be replaced with a glass storefront that affords grand water views upon diners’ entry as well as for passersby. The interior design of the downstairs bar is inspired by a seaside cottage. White bead board will be used against pale blue walls and will be offset by contrasting dark blue tongue-and-groove distressed wood. A crisp, airy look will extend to cottage furniture in the entry and dining room. A highlight of the new design is the cobalt blue Avonite bar top. Lit from beneath and with pendant lights hanging above, it will emanate a soft blue glow in the evenings. A significant layout change is the move of the piano from the entrance of the dining area to its own corner near the water, giving the piano bar a stage-like setting with dramatic views of Venetian Village’s signature architecture. The wall around the top of the stairs will be replaced with glass panels, creating more synergy between the upstairs and downstairs.
Bayside’s upstairs dining room will be gutted. Smaller columns will replace the current massive columns to take advantage of the ceiling height and to open up the panoramic views. Glass panels will unite the room’s separate dining areas to offer water views from anywhere in the room, and half-walls will be finished with iridescent tiles to enhance the glowing effect throughout the restaurant. Expansive glass doors will lead from the upstairs dining room to the Upper Deck Bar, affording an open-air ambience for indoor diners.
“Upon reopening, Bayside Seafood Grill & Bar will celebrate the beginning of its next 20 years as Naples’ leading waterfront restaurant,” said Ms. Honeycutt.

Mercato’s newest restaurant, PURE Urban Oasis, has opened at Mercato. The 5,400 square foot restaurant will accommodate 185 in a combination of bar, booth and table seating, including al fresco seating on two patios. Pure is the brainchild of notable restaurateur, Peter Schmid of Peter’s La Cuisine fame, who brings his cutting edge style to the heart of Mercato.
Schmid envisioned creating a lifestyle brand of modern dining without excess. The upscale casual restaurant is planned to be a “feast for the senses”. The restaurant offers flexible ordering with “Pure Small Plates” on one section of the menu, which shows the number of pieces served so diners can order enough to share with the table or individual portions. “The menu was designed to offer rejuvenating and fulfilling dishes, purposely made “PURE” – containing only those ingredients that truly belong, “ says Schmid.
The mood at Pure transitions from a refreshing lunch to the cocktail hour to the dinner hour and into the late night with lighting and music that evolve like courses of a gourmet meal. The interiors are smartly styled using innovative lighting techniques and custom seating.
Pure cuisine incorporates world-wide influences and is reasonably priced with the majority of items priced from $6 to $20. Selections include a wide variety of small plates that combine familiar ingredients to create unique presentations. Also available are more traditional main dishes such as grilled lamb chop lollipops, blackened snapper, teriyaki sea bass, and peppercorn beef filet served with cabernet sauce. Pure’s signature Gruyere potatoes accompany these main dishes.
Pure is offering a summer lunch special, which features a ”triple play” of wonderful items at a great price. The entire menu, however, is available from open to close. Their selection of small plates and signature Rice Toppers provide a unique opportunity to experience a wide variety of flavors and textures that can be enjoyed as appetizers, a late night bite or a combination that can be shared with friends and family.
For sweet endings or a wonderful way to start your evening, Pure offers a variety of sweet desserts as well as hand-crafted dessert martinis with such decadent ingredients as double espresso vodka, Dutch chocolate vodka, and white chocolate liqueur. What could be more signature Florida than Key Lime Pie? Check out Pure’s Key Lime Pie-tini mixed with vanilla vodka, fresh lime juice, fresh pineapple juice, whipped cream, and a graham-cracker rim, served with lime gelato for a cool dessert twist.
For a refreshing alternative to homogeneous dining, it’s as “Pure” as it gets.
